Our vision and philosophy
At de Praktijk voor Psychotherapie Amsterdam e.o., we consider it wise and healthy that people work on their psychological complaints and problems. Even if it is just for themselves, because is there anything that feels better than improving problems and seeing them return less frequently? Our mission to offer is high-quality, client-focused care to people with mostly severe, complex, and multiple psychological disorders.
We greatly appreciate the opinion of our clients, are interested in their experiences and concerned with the feelings they express. Together with our clients we want to find the best way to vastly improve their current situation. We carry on for as long as needed, until problems and complaints have adequately improved. Scientific research supports the notion that the more motivated a client is, the better a treatment’s results will be.
Therapy and personality
Our practice focusses on personality disorders, which are often complex and persistent in nature. It takes perseverance to learn to understand where problems are coming from and what role your personality plays. During therapy you will learn to reflect more and more on your thoughts and feelings. The therapist will help you to break through dysfunctional thinking patterns, and to develop a new way of looking at problems and stay motivated while handling these problems.
Trust between therapist and client
We consider trust between therapist and client to be one of the most important requirements for building a good relationship. That seems obvious, but for people with personality disorders who have often experienced trouble in their relationships, it isn’t.
We consider the treatment completed when you have made a fundamental change in your personality without having lost your own identity, and you can be expected to no longer relapse into old behavioural patterns.
